A mixture of an
aromatic alcohol (3 mmol), sodium nitrate (6 mmol), and [DDPA][HS[O.sub.4]] (1.2mmol) was heated with stirring at 80[degrees]C for 5-30 min in a round-bottomed flask.
The dominant features of the C k-edge spectra include: (1) quinone and diene C at 284.5 eV, (2) aryl and olefinic C at 285.2 eV, (3) unsaturated C at 286.1 eV, (4) phenolic (aromatic C connected to O group (COH) in phenols) and ketonic C (carbonyl substituted aromatic structures of quinones, phenols and ketones) at 286.7 eV, (5) aliphatic and carbonyl C (carbonyl functionalities from aromatic ketones) at 287.7 eV, (6) carboxylic C, carbonyl C in carboxylic acids,
aromatic alcohols and polysaccharide structures at 288.4 eV, (7) O-alkyl C (e.g.
As a part of our ongoing interest in one-pot procedures [31,32,36,37], which involve the design of the environmentally and economically favored one-pot reactions, our group has recently reported efficient one-pot preparation of (Z)-a-chloro-a,bunsaturated esters through chlorination/ oxidation/ Wittig olefinaation cascade.NCS and the DMSO/SO3*pyridine complex were used as the chlorinating agent and oxidant, respectively, sand activated alcohols, such as allylic alcohol, propargylic alcohol, and
aromatic alcohols, were used as starting compounds as well as alkanols [30].
The results showed that all secondary
aromatic alcohols were selectively oxidized into their corresponding ketones with 100% convertibility under optimized circumstances (Table 6, entries 1-6).
The stubborn polymer assortment of
aromatic alcohols known as lignin continues to be a key factor limiting the efficiency of pulp and paper production.
It is comprised of a surfactant system (including an alkox-ylated nonionic surfactant, a sulphated or sulphonated anionic surfactant; and a neutralizing co-surfactant); a thickener or mixture thereof; a chelant or mixture thereof; a solvent selected from the group consisting of ethers having from 4 to 14 carbon atoms, diethers having from 4 to 14 carbon atoms, glycols, alkoxylated glycols, alkoxylated
aromatic alcohols,
aromatic alcohols, alkoxylated aliphatic alcohols, aliphatic alcohols, C8-C14 alkyl hydrocarbons, C8-C14 cycloalkyl hydrocarbons, C8-C14 alkyl ha lohydrocarbons, C8-C14 cycloalkyl halohydrocarbons, C6-C16 glycol ethers, and mixtures thereof; and water.
Lignin, a complex polymer of
aromatic alcohols, is an integral part of the secondary cell walls of plants and some algae.
The values for aliphatic alcohols obtained during experimentation ranged from 23 to 267 g per L, and the sum of
aromatic alcohols ranged from 2,437 to 11,844 g per L.
The majority of the hawkmoth-pollinated flowers emitted spicy
aromatic alcohols and esters, as scientists had predicted, but so did a few relatives that attract other pollinators.
