In a graphical user interface, a small box on which an x or check mark appears when the option indicated next to the box is turned on, and disappears when the option is turned off.

check box

A small square on screen that simulates the equivalent symbol on a paper form. Clicking in the box selects the function, and a check mark is displayed. Clicking again removes the check mark. See I Am Not a Robot.


Disable or Enable
When a check box contains a check mark, the function is "enabled," which means it is turned on and active. When the box is empty, the option is not active (disabled).
