code name

An internal name given to a product under development. For example, Chicago was the code name for Windows 95; Merced was the code name for Intel's Itanium chip.

The tech platform accessed and published a code snippet from a class in the ConnectivityMonitor app which states all the Pixel devices and their code-names. The Pixel and Pixel XL ("sailfish" and "marlin"), Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL ("walleye" and "taimen"), and Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL ("blueline" and "crosshatch") all make an appearance, they say.
Part 1, "Cast of Characters," includes brief descriptions of the main US government departments, agencies, commands, and organizations mentioned in the code-names dictionary.
The authors don't tell this story with much panache--the human drama tends to give way to page after page of names, dates, code-names, and cables.
