photodetector

[¦fōd·ō·di′tek·tər]
(electronics)
A detector that responds to radiant energy; examples include photoconductive cells, photodiodes, photoresistors, photoswitches, phototransistors, phototubes, and photovoltaic cells. Also known as light-sensitive cell; light-sensitive detector; light sensor photodevice; photodevice; photoelectric detector; photosensor.
