Because
self-fertile immature oocytes become self-sterile spontaneously by 3 h after germinal vesicle breakdown in vivo as well as in vitro, we allowed animals one week to accumulate mature gametes, followed by natural spawning instead of dissection to avoid contamination of immature oocytes.
