synthetic performance monitoring

Monitoring a website or application by running scripts that send sample queries or transactions. The scripts create the typical actions a user might take when interacting with the software, and the responses are recorded.

Contrast with "real user monitoring," which embeds code in the page or app itself to record the timing details of the transactions happening to actual users in real time.
