Aeneolithic

 

(also Chalcolithic), the transitional period from the Stone Age to the Bronze Age. The oldest copper articles and pieces of ore have been found in the early farming settlements of Southwest Asia (eighth to fifth millennia B.C). Copper and bronze implements began supplanting stone implements in the fourth millennium B.C. (seeCOPPER AGE).
