Ajka

 

a town in Hungary, in the megyék (county) of Vesz-prém, in the Bakony Mountains. Ajka has a population of 21,000 inhabitants (1967). Its industry includes an aluminum combine, a thermal electric power plant, a glassworks, and a brick plant. In the environs, lignite is mined (Ajkacsinger-völgy, Padragkút), as well as bauxites (Nyirád, Szöc, and Halimba).
