Alsop, Stewart

(1914–74) journalist; born in Avon, Conn. A self-described New Deal liberal, he wrote a widely syndicated political column with his brother, Joseph Alsop, from 1946 to 1958. Later a Newsweek columnist, he wrote Stay of Execution (1973) about his final battle with leukemia.
