Anchor River State Recreation Area
Location:Northwest of Homer at milepost 157 on Sterling Highway.
Facilities:Campsites at 5 different campgrounds (Slidehole and Halibut have @di
sites), toilets (@di at all campgrounds except Coho), drinking water at
Halibut and Slidehole campgrounds (é), picnic sites at 3 campgrounds
(some @di), picnic shelters (é) at Slidehole and Steelhead
campgrounds.
Activities:Camping, fishing.
Special Features:Anchor Point, where the recreation area is located, is the most
westerly point on the US highway system, and the Anchor River is one of
Alaska's premier fishing areas. Wildlife are abundant in this area,
with moose, beaver, mink, bald eagles, and a variety of ducks along the
river, and harbor seals, sea otters, and beluga whales near shore in
Cook Inlet.
