Astronomical Netherlands Satellite
Astronomical Netherlands Satellite
(ANS) A joint Netherlands/US satellite that was launched in Aug. 1974 and operated until 1976. It contained a 20-cm ultraviolet telescope providing broad-band (about 15 nm) photometric data on selected astronomical sources at wavelengths of 155 nm, 180 nm, 220 nm, 250 nm, and 350 nm. A catalog of such observations for about 3500 stars has been completed. In addition the satellite carried two X-ray telescopes that made the first observations of an X-ray burst source.Collins Dictionary of Astronomy © Market House Books Ltd, 2006
