Azhiniiaz, Kosybai uly

 

Born 1824; died 1878. Kara-Kalpak poet; also wrote in Uzbek and Kazakh.

Azhiniiaz wrote popular love and philosophical poetry, with social inequality and the thirst for a better life for the people as its basic theme. His poem Bozatau depicts the Kara-Kalpak uprising for national independence against the Khiva khan in 1858–59.
