Bacon, Delia Salter

(1811–59) author, lecturer; born in Tallmadge, Ohio. A schoolteacher, she turned her lectures and dramatic readings into public performances in New York and other cities. She devoted her last years to marshaling the case for Francis Bacon's authorship of Shakespeare's plays, a theory that Nathaniel Hawthorne helped her publish in 1857.
