Big Bear Solar Observatory

A solar observatory located on an artificial island in Big Bear Lake, southern California. The altitude is 2040 meters. It was formerly owned and operated by the California Institute of Technology, for which it was built in 1969, but it was handed over to the New Jersey Institute of Technology in 1997. The chief instrument is a 65-cm reflector. See also solar telescope.
