Established: 1985.
Location:50 miles southwest of Tucson.
Facilities:Visitor contact station, viewing sites, boardwalk, auto tour route, trails, picnic sites, historic features, primitive campsites.
Activities:Hiking, backpacking, camping, mountain biking, horseback riding, hunting, educational programs.
Special Features:In addition to the masked bobwhite quail, Buenos Aires NWR protects habitat for six other endangered species: cactus ferruginous pygmy owl, Pima pineapple cactus, Kearney's bluestar, peregrine falcon, Southwest willow flycatcher, and razorback sucker.
Habitats: 118,000 acres of grasslands, wetlands, riparian streams, and desert mountains.
Access: Open to public use 24 hours a day.
Wild life: Masked bobwhite quail (endangered), pronghorn antelope, javelina, mountain lion, badger, and occasional jaguar. Provides habitat for many southeast Arizona specialty birds, including gray hawk, zone-tailed hawk, black hawk, owls.
