Established: 1997.
Location:In western Kentucky between Benton and Paducah on the East Fork of the Clarks River.
Facilities:Under development; in acquisition stages.
Activities:Bicycling, horseback riding, fishing, hunting, hiking.
Special Features:The refuge is conducting research to determine whether prothonotary warblers will use an artificial nesting structure that is combined with artificial wood duck nesting boxes.
Habitats: 8,500 acres of wetland habitat formed by the river, creeks, beaver ponds, and natural ponding. The proposed boundary of the refuge is 18,000 acres.
Access: Open year-round; some areas closed seasonally.
Wild life: Migrating waterfowl, wading birds, raptors and many species of migratory neotropical birds. Also home to migrating monarch butterflies, wild turkey, white-tailed deer, groundhogs, coyote, beaver, mink, salamanders, turtles, frogs, and snakes.
