Established: In 1984, two refuges were combined to create Edwin B. Forsythe NWR.
Location:9 miles north of Atlantic City, along southern New Jersey's Atlantic coast.
Facilities:Visitor contact station, viewing sites, hiking trails, boat ramp, auto tour route (8 miles).
Activities:Fishing, crabbing, hunting, hiking, wildlife watching, boating, educational programs.
Special Features:Refuge is located along one of the Atlantic Flyway's most active flight paths and has been designated a Wetland of International Importance under the RAMSAR Convention. A portion of the New Jersey Coastal Heritage Trail passes through the refuge.
Habitats: 43,000 acres of coastal habitats--primarily tidal salt meadow and marsh interspersed with shallow coves and bays.
Access: Daily, sunrise to sunset.
Wild life: Migrating ducks and geese, wading birds, and shore birds. Also piping plover, peregrine falcons, ospreys, and bald eagles.
