Ermelo

 

a town in South Africa, in the southeastern Transvaal. Population, 22,800 (1967). Ermelo has a railroad station and is a highway junction. One of the centers of the Witbank coal-mining area, the town is also the commercial center of an agricultural region known for sheep raising and the raising of grain crops. Ermelo has a cheesemaking industry.
