Location:5 miles southwest of I-75 exit 288.

Special Features:Believed to be the most intact Mississippian Culture site in the southeastern United States, the site contains six earthen mounds, a plaza, village area, borrow pits, and a defensive ditch. The area was likely a major political and religious center and home to several thousand Native Americans between A.D. 1000 and 1550. To date only about ten percent of the site has been excavated. The park's museum interprets daily life in the community with exhibits of stone effigies, wooden figures, objects made of sea shell and stone, and other artifacts.
