FlexRay

FlexRay

A rugged, digital, in-vehicle serial bus from the FlexRay Consortium, founded by BMW, DaimlerChrysler, Freescale Semiconductor and Philips Semiconductor in 2000. First used in the 2007 BMW X5, FlexRay provides 10 Mbps on each of two channels; much faster than the CAN bus maximum of 1 Mbps. Using both bus and star topologies, FlexRay supports synchronous and asynchronous transmission, fault tolerance and a guarantee of minimum latency. For more information, visit www.flexray.com.
