Fort Trumbull State Park
Location:In New London, south of I-95 on the west side of Thames River. (Northbound I-95, Exit 83; southbound I-95, Exit 84).
Facilities:Walking trail, fishing pier, conference center, visitor center, restrooms (é).
Activities:Fishing, tours of historic fort, including the ramparts, interactive exhibits.
Special Features:Built from 1839 to 1852, Fort Trumbull is one of a group of 42 forts
built to defend of the east coast of the United States. The visitor
center's state-of-the-art exhibits and displays interpret more than 225
years of military history and technological advances, from the
Revolutionary War to the Cold War. (The visitor center is closed
between Columbus Day and Memorial Day Weekend.) Park also boasts one
of the finest fishing piers on the east coast.
