Goodspeed, Edgar Johnson
(1871–1962) biblical scholar and educator; born in Quincy, Ill. A distinguished teacher at the University of Chicago (1902–37), he was renowned for his expertise in biblical exegesis and Greek papyrology. His relatively more vernacular New Testament: An American Translation (1923) was a milestone.
