James "Pate" Philip State Park
Location:In northeast Illinois, in Bartlett, on Stearns Road, west of Powis Road.
Facilities:Picnic area, shelter, multi-purpose trails (5 miles), restrooms, drinking water, visitor/education center (é).
Activities:Environmental education programs, hiking, horseback riding, bicycling, cross-country skiing.
Special Features:Purpose of the park is to blend the forest, marshland, and
grasslands of Pratt's Wayne Woods Forest Preserve, which lies south of
James "Pate" Philips State Park, with the park's conservation lands in
order to establish native vegetation that will create new
opportunities for wildlife corridors and greenway connections to
neighboring counties. The park's visitor center serves as an
environmental education facility, with exhibits and programs that
illustrate the park's restoration story.
