Keel Lighter

Keel Lighter

 

a vessel equipped with hoisting equipment for placing mooring anchors, booms, and so on; for raising loads from under the water; and for carrying out other lifting operations. Located in the bow of a keel lighter are an overhanging arm (cathead) with blocks that make up a compound pulley and a winch or capstan.
