Established: 1980.
Location:Along the Hatchie Scenic River in western Tennessee.
Facilities:Viewing sites, hiking trails, auto tour route, boat ramps, historical features.
Activities:Boating, canoeing, fishing, hiking, hunting, educational programs.
Special Features:The Hatchie River remains the longest continuous stretch of naturally meandering river in the lower Mississippi River Valley. As a result, wildlife and fisheries thrive in its almost pristine watershed ecosystems. The refuge helps protect and enhance the ever-diminishing bottomland hardwood forests.
Habitats: 9,451 acres of bottomland hardwood forest, cropland, water, and grasslands.
Access: Open year round during daylight hours. Waterfowl sanctuary closed November 15 - March 15.
Wild life: Bald eagles, Mississippi kites, wild turkey, neotropical songbirds, waterfowl, shorebirds, as well as mammals, reptiles, amphibians and fish.
