On northern border of western PA. Organized Mar 26, 1804 from Lycoming County, but administered through Centre County until 1814, then Potter and Lycoming counties; fully organized in 1826. Name Origin: For Thomas McKean (1734-1817), signer of the Declaration of Independence, chief justice of PA (1777-79), and governor (1799-1808)
