Orkla
a river in Norway. Length, 170 km; drains an area of more than 3,000 sq km.
The Orkla rises in the Dovrefjell massif and flows primarily in a narrow ravine, forming numerous rapids and waterfalls. It flows into Trondheimsfjord west of the city of Trondheim. The average water discharge is approximately 50 cu m per sec. There is a series of hydroelectric power plants on the Orkla.
