[‚rab·dō′vir·ə‚dī] (virology)
A large family of negative-strand ribonucleic acid (RNA) viruses characterized by an enveloped bullet-shaped virion containing nonfragmented single-stranded RNA. They infect mammals, birds, fish, insects, and plants. The family includes the genera Vesiculovirus (vesicular stomatitis) and Lyssavirus (rabies).
