Special Features:This wilderness park encompasses part of a coastal forest system that is unique to the Kodiak Archipelago, containing only one tree species, the Sitka spruce. The island is only 12 miles long and 11 miles wide, but it has more sheltered waterways than anywhere else in the Archipelago. The lands and waters of the area host seabirds, whales, harbor seals, sea lions, and porpoises. Shuyak also has a limited number of Kodiak brown bear, which are potentially fierce.
