T Tauri wind

T Tauri wind

(tor -ÿ, -ee) A continuous flow of material from the surface of a T Tauri star. Qualitatively this flux resembles the solar wind but the amount of material lost is far greater, approaching 10–7 solar masses per year in some cases. It is possible that this outflow acts as a braking mechanism for fast-spinning young stars. In some T Tauri stars this wind is collimated into a bipolar outflow.
