Location:Off Route 118, 2 miles west of Route 8, less than 1 mile east of Litchfield Center.
Facilities:Historic cottage, hiking trails, ecology trail with interpretive signs, pit toilets.
Activities:Cottage tours (2x/month, June through October), hiking, hunting (permitted north of Route 118 only), cross-country skiing, birding.
Special Features:Topsmead State Forest is the former summer estate of Miss Edith Morton Chase, who died in 1972. The estate includes an English Tudor style house surrounded by plantings of holly, lilac, and juniper as well as formal gardens.
