In central CA, southeast of Fresno; organized Apr 20, 1852, from Mariposa County. Name Origin: For Tulare Lake, Mexican-Spanish 'rush' or 'reed,' perhaps originally from Aztec tullin or tollin, 'cattail' or 'bulrush.'
