Location:In Wheeling, West Virginia.
Special Features:Once the capital of West Virginia, Wheeling marked the northernmost navigable port on the Ohio River. It became a thriving commercial, industrial, and cultural center, and by 1818 was the terminus of the National Road, the nation's first highway. A waterfront park plus a variety of venues throughout the city interpret the history and culture of the area.
