linear PCM

linear PCM

(linear Pulse Code Modulation) A type of pulse code modulation (PCM) in which each sample is a measurement of the actual wave at that point. Linear PCM (LPCM) is native PCM, and the terms LPCM and PCM are generally synonymous. However, linear PCM may refer to PCM when contrasting it with differential PCM (DPCM) and adaptive differential PCM (ADPCM), which are compressed versions of PCM and not full samples at every point. See PCM, DPCM and ADPCM.
