satellite Internet
satellite Internet
Internet access via satellites. In 1996, Hughes introduced the first Internet service via satellite and is currently the largest in the U.S. (see HughesNet). Prior to Hughes' entry, a global satellite-based service was planned by Teledesic, but it never came to fruition (see Teledesic). Today, there are several satellite Internet services as well as projects for global service in various stages of completion.
