Nine theoretical areas delineated on the abdomen by two horizontal and two parasagittal lines: above, the right hypochondriac, epigastric, and left hypochondriac; in the middle, the right lateral, umbilical, and left lateral; and below, the right inguinal, hypogastric, and left inguinal.
