a pilot of a fighter airplane who is an outstanding master of air combat and who has shot down many enemy airplanes. In World War I, pilots who shot down five or more planes each were called aces. In the Great Patriotic War (1941–45) more than 150 Soviet pilots shot down from 20 to 50 hostile aircraft each; A. I. Pokryshkin and I. N. Kozhedub, both awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union three times, shot down 59 and 62 enemy airplanes respectively. In the Soviet Air Force, pilots who have mastered to perfection the art of piloting and air fighting are sometimes also called aces.
ACE(1) (Adobe Certified Expert) The award for successfully completing an examination in an Adobe application such as Photoshop, Illustrator or Dreamweaver as well as in one of Adobe's campaign and media management products (Adobe Campaign Developer, Adobe Experience Manager, etc.). Exams in more than 25 subjects are offered in numerous locations by the Pearson VUE testing organization.
(2) (Advanced Computing Environment) An open standard based on Unix and Windows NT introduced in 1991 by MIPS Computer Systems and others. Although later disbanded, its purpose was to provide users a migration path from x86 PCs to MIPS RISC machines.
