A specified minimum published altitude that must be flown by an aircraft to ensure safe flight over an obstruction or specified terrain. These include minimum IFR (instrument flight rules) altitude (MIA), minimum en route altitude (MEA), minimum obstacle clearance altitude (MOCA), and minimum vectoring altitude (MVA). The illustration shows the way MEAs are depicted on en route charts.
