While a differential diagnosis of temporal arteritis should include Takayasu's disease, polyarteritis nodosa, systemic lupus, and hypersensitivity vasculitis, it is often easy to make the distinction between temporal arteritis and other arteritides based on the patient's age, distribution of the lesions, organ involvement, and presence of polymyalgia rheumatica.
