Compared with previously described methods using radioactive-labeled pyruvate or the spectrophotometric arylamine acetyltransferase reaction, our assay has several advantages, i.e., no need for radioactive compounds, a low blank rate, a high specific activity, use of commercially available reagents of standardized quality, and low costs.
