astable multivibrator
[ā′stā·bəl ‚məlt·i′vī‚brād·ər] (electronics)
A multivibrator in which each active device alternately conducts and is cut off for intervals of time determined by circuit constants, without use of external triggers. Also known as free-running multivibrator.
