The plotting and directing of the movement of a vehicle from within by means of observations on celestial bodies. Also known as astrogation; celestial navigation.

astronavigation

The art of navigating by measuring the altitude of stars and other celestial bodies. The location of stars and other celestial bodies in question in the celestial sphere must be known. The celestial bodies are observed with the help of a sextant and their position on the celestial sphere is taken from astronomical tables or almanacs.
