automatic volume control[¦ȯd·ə¦mad·ik ′väl·yəm kən‚trōl]
An automatic gain control that keeps the output volume of a radio receiver essentially constant despite variations in input-signal strength during fading or when tuning from station to station. Abbreviated AVC.
