Transabdominal and transvaginal (TVS) scans had shown separate right and left cornu with multiple cysts in the peripheral ovarian parenchyma features suggestive of bicornuate uterus
and polycystic ovaries (Figure 1).
This is higher than reported by other authors.26,27 Commonest abnormality found was bicornuate uterus
(4% - 164 cases).
is a congenital abnormality where the uterus is heart-shaped with two horn-shaped projections and is formed during development of the fetus.
At 8 weeks postpartum, pelvic MRI demonstrated bicornuate uterus
(Figure 3) with cervical bicollis (Figure 4).

Otherwise, unicornuate or bicornuate uterus

Distinguishing a didelphys or bicornuate uterus
from a septate uterus is critical.
After her second loss, she was diagnosed with a bicornuate uterus
, which restricts the space available for a baby to grow.
Fibroid was found in 6.4% of cases, bicornuate uterus
in 1.2% cases, arcuate uterus in 1.2% of cases and uterine hypoplasia in 1.9% cases.
A bicornuate uterus
is not associated with any increase in the prevalences of miscarriage and preterm labour.
Possibilities include didelphys, septate uterus, and bicornuate uterus
. With a septate uterus (Figure 10), a fibromuscular central septum is incompletely resorbed after mullerian duct fusion.
Uterine evaluation in primary infertility group revealed no abnormality in 44 (88%) cases, 3 (6%) had bicornuate uterus
, 1 (2%) each had didelphys uterus, Unicornuate uterus and septate uterus respectively whereas in secondary infertility group, 27 (90%) had no abnormality, 2 (6.7%) had bicornuate uterus
and 1 (3.3%) had unicornuate uterus.
