bridge mode

An operational mode that bypasses various functions in a device. For example, bridge mode in a cable/DSL gateway bypasses the router and switch functions, causing the device to be used only for its modem capability. If the gateway also provides hotspots (access points), they may remain intact or also be bypassed. See cable/DSL gateway.
