Cavernitis

an inflammation of the corpora cavernosa of the penis.

Cavernitis is manifested by high body temperature and pain, redness, and swelling of the penis; an abscess may form relatively rapidly. Cavernitis arises acutely as a complication of local (ure-thritis) or systemic (sepsis) infectious processes. Cavernitis istreated with antibiotics, local heat, and surgery (lancing of abscesses).[11–-1–1]

Several reports have mentioned potential complications due to selective embolization, which are relatively high with the use of permanent materials and in bilateral occlusion, including erectile dysfunction, penile gangrene, gluteal ischemia, cavernositis, and perineal abscess (18, 19).
There are reports of more serious adverse events after proximal shunts including urethral fistulae and purulent cavernositis after a Quackles shunt [4] and pulmonary embolism following the Grayhack procedure [5].
