cavity ringdown laser absorption spectroscopy[¦kav·əd·ē ¦riŋ‚dau̇n ¦lā·zər əb¦sörp·shən ‚spek′träs·kə·pē]
A direct absorption technique used for measuring short-lived species and for trace-gas analysis in which the rate of decay of light, injected with a pulsed laser and trapped in a cavity formed by two highly reflective mirrors, is measured, allowing the calculation of the amount of light absorbed by the sample. Abbreviated CRLAS.
