Blue spheres of chalcosiderite up to 2 mm in diameter occur in quartz cavities, accompanied by small vivianite crystals.
The botryoidal coating consists of minute crystals, rhombic in shape but triclinic in symmetry, analogous to the crystals of chalcosiderite, with which turquoise is shown to be isomorphous.
Only recently has the turquoise group been sorted out and the minerals planerite and aheylite described and grouped with turquoise and chalcosiderite (Foord and Taggart, 1986, 1998).
