A mode of operation of a relay-type control system in which the relay switches back and forth infinitely fast.

chattering

A malfunction in hydraulically operated brakes that results in heavy vibrations. The malfunction is caused by a glazed surface on the brake disc, alternately producing friction and then permitting the lining to slip over the disc.
