Chub

(Leuciscus cephalus), a freshwater fish of the family Cyprinidae. The body length is up to 80 cm, the weight to 8 kg. The head is fat (hence the name golavl’ in Russian), the brow broad and flat, and the scales quite large. Chub are found in many rivers of Europe and Southwest Asia, and they have a number of subspecies. Spawning takes place in early May, when more than 100,000 eggs are laid by a single fish.
